dont own... but have fired and know an pro hunter that swears its the greatest round ever invented... he shoots everything from roos to pigs with it...

one day for some reason he talked me ear off for an hour about how he disscovered the round when he was 20 (now 60 something) and still hasnt found anything better... he did however get a new barrel for his 22 250 a week after our long chat, and converted it to a 6mm...

but i think its a very nice round to fire...

I heard they are flat shooting, accurate guns, but burn through barrels quickly

Shooting out a barrel is really just a myth for the most part. While it's still very possible, barrel steel's and manufacturing processes have considerably lengthened the life of todays barrels, and most factory calibers aren't fast enough to really shoot out a barrel. There are alot of wildcats that can do it though. :o

and the .22-250 is a great varmint round, it offers a little more range than a .223, but it costs a little more. I plan on building a .22-250 Ackley Improved over the summer for groundhogs and coyotes.

22-250 is a great round. quick, flat shooting and not much recoil. it's mostly a varmint round, but i know a few ppl who use it on deer(at ranges under 75yds) and it's worked pretty darn good for them. it expands quickly and violently. at about 50yds, it'll take the head off a jackrabbit and not leave very large pieces either(the only identifiable part of the head we found was a solitary ear).

One of my best friends has a Howa in 22-250 and it's a sweet rifle. He has a good Simmons scope (no cheap glass comments please, it works very well) on it, and after shooting it I was sold. If I didn't already have an AR varment project in the works, that's what I'd buy.

    BOOM! Headshot.

I considered a .243, but since I already have one I don't see the point in buying another. :o

Understandable. :o I originally wanted a 6mmBR because I'm a pretty big fan of the 6mm's, but getting it to feed from a magazine seems to be a PITA. :hs:

Thanks for the input, my father has a remmington 22 250 upstairs that has not been shot in a good 15 years, I was just wondering if it was worth pulling out to shoot. We also have a reloader with dies for it but he can't remember how to use it.
