Looking at them in the pawn shop today, I don't know why, but there is somthing about them I like, usually I am more of a modern rifle guy, but there is something :coolugh: about them.

Anyway, I was looking a Winchester Model 94's and Marlin 336's, both seem to be plentiful and they had some of each in good condition. Anyone got any reasons why one is better than the other? Also what is a good price for each of these?

something about a 30-30 or 45/70 in a lever action that is very appealing to me.

ive got a lever action browning .22 that will do 6" groups at 100 yds with the factory barrel. thats also using the iron sites.
i also shoot a winchester 243 lever rifle. i just like the "cowboy" themed guns sometimes.

My brother has one... pretty sure it's a Model 94 by Winchester.

I've fired it a few times and I like it. :big grin:

on the topic of interesting guns, my Grandpa always shot a pump action 30-06. I always thought that was cool as hell.

So what should I expect to pay for a run of the mill one? I don't need anything fancy...

both the two you listed are 30-30 rounds, I can tell you I own a marlin 336, but have never shot a winchester 94. What I have heard is that the winchesters are tighter built rifles and a tad bit more finicky while the marlis area bit rougher and a bit more reiable, I do not know how true this is. I can tell you I love my marlin even though its it a little rough around the edges (granted it is an older built, I'd guess around 1950, no saftey) and my only complaint is that the edges are pretty sharp. For me its a great gun, the only one I own that the first time I picked it up I nailed the first 5 shots at 50 yards all in the bull's eye.

:bigthumb: first gun I ever owned I got from my grandfather long after he died, a remington model 760 BDL gamemaster pump action in 30-06. I love that gun.

I put the 94 a little higher on the list due to it being out of production, may go up in value one day, but there are alot out there.

The only other interesting thing was a USP 9mm for around 450, in good condition, I may go after that since they don't seem to be running out of winchester 94's

If the newer 94s go up in value it will be because of this reason alone. Winchester was making trash towards the end and it's reflected in all the products that came out of new haven in the past few years.

You can get a 336 at Walmart for $280
Just as reliable as the 94, cheap and built like an AK in that it takes a hell of a beating and still works like a champ.
I am not a big fan of buying guns to collect and as "investments". I use and abuse them.

I would love to try out one of Marlin's new XLR .308 express models for next hunting season.
