I just bought a Pioneer Elite Pro730-HDI for a killer deal yesterday. I was wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to calibrate it would be because it has like a million features. Picture is incredible to say the least right now and I just have it set up to a crappy pair of composite inputs from my cable box. Need to pick up some components and svideo, but if any advanced techies here have any advice on tuning it and setup, I would appreciate it.

Oh, and if your interested in the price....I got it from a buddy at Ultimate where it was at a sale price for 4950.00 - 1000 discount - 1000 MIR. Pretty good deal for a TV that is MSRP (other than the holidays) @ 5499

Yeah its a 64" beast in my loft....but it fits in there so perfectly. I did a convergence and everything seemed to be hidden behind the white, but it has less than 2 hrs of time on it. Ill get some pics if your interested. Any other ideas on how to tune the tint, contrast, color, like a ISP pro or is that something much more complex?

oh man, that's it for a discount. he could've hooked it up a lot better than that. i work at ultimate also. they do have their installers come out and calibrate your system now for only $50. it's actually a good deal. it's not an isf calibration, but they do use the dvd for your t.v. and an spl meter for your audio. go back to your "friend" and tell him that you want a better deal. oh ya, btw, the new HDI models are pretty much the same, just new model number and minor differences that they make out to be large ones. just can't compete with mitsubishi. mitsu diamond > elite > *

Care to share your cost price with me then? I bought the Elite model for the new HDMI inputs that they offer for when I buy my new amp and dvd player, also since the majority of the people ive talked to at retailers and online tend to back the Pioneer more. Im not saying that the Mitsu is bad in any way. I saw it and to me its very comparable in picture. Im not trying to stay biased at all, but if you could enlighten me with how the Elite cant compare with the Mitus, I would love to hear...and see what I may have passed up. Thanks for your info.

    hey jdub12,
it's not that i'm trying to make you have buyer's remorse or anything of the sort. did you buy an excellent t.v.? by all means. in fact, pioneer elite has won the "tv of the year" award for nearly a decade straight. mitsubishi finally beat them out last year and this year. reason being is because they have integrated tuners along with the fact that for h.d., not beats the mitsu diamond quality. nothing. for dvd's and for analog, yes elite's are a bit better, but the comparison for hd is just second to none. once again, you purchased an excellent set. don't be taking anything the wrong way. but the inputs that you're talking about, well mitsu's have had those in their top line sets for a while now...

just to let you know, the sets that i'm talking about can't be found at best buy, circuit, sears, etc. they're only found at higher end retailers such as ultimate. pm me if you want to hear some more.

No remorse whatsoever, but I was just wondering on what features that the Mitsu's have that are better. Just curious because I was just a novice to the Home Theater scene, and I talked to lots of people about their own opinions (biased, some not) to formulate a good purchase decision. I just want to know what the Mitsu's have in comparison and which ones are ideal to which situations. To be honest, i've heard a lot of good things about the Diamonds, but not as much as the Pioneers so like I said, I just want to talk about the differences, not argue to further my knowledge because it seems like you know a lot and you like the Mitsu, and I could learn a thing or two from it.

BTW, I thought that the HDMI inputs were relatively new? Newer than the DVI inputs hence it does both digital audio and picture. Also since most input devices like recievers and dvd players are just starting to support the hookup. Do you have any first hand experience with the HDMI or DVI to HDMI picture quality? I would like to know if I'll notice any significant difference between a good component cable and a DVI or HDMI source? Thanks for you time.

first of all, people that have done their research for the past few years are correct in telling you that the pioneer elite is an excellent and probably the best t.v. out there. but what they fail to notice is that with changing technologies, even the "king" of t.v.'s can be taken down. i.e. elites. i really do feel as though the mitsu's, especially the diamonds, are a better television, especially for the money. considering the fact that at least for now, they do have the integrated tuners which allows you to receive local h.d. off the air. which means that you can hook up an antannae and receive local for free. now this depends on where you live. i live in the twin cities and i get about 8 hd channels for free. it may be more, may be less for your area. that's some research that you're going to have to do. it also has the ability to control 6 colors vs only 3. plus quad field focus. which not only concentrates on the vertical and horizontal, but along with the two other diagonals. makes a large difference.

this is some of the info that i received from other employees, trainings, but the best was their seminar. just amazing what they're coming out with. i'm sure you've heard of the alpha. as for the hdmi inputs, i haven't heard too many good things about it, but i most definately could be wrong. i'm sure that there's a bit of a difference between dvi and hdmi, but probably the major one is going to be the fact that there will be a lot less copyright issues. i.e. when the samsung "hd" dvd player came out, only about half the dvd's out there would actually work. even if rented or purchased legally.

hope this helps a little. once again, you have an amazing set. i just hope that you have the capabilities to "maximize" your new purchase. a lot of people purchase new h.d. sets and then don't even hook up h.d. to it or even a progscan dvd player. kinda sad, but oh well. just make sure that you are really enjoying it. let me know if i can help anymore.

btw, one last note, you do have a 30 satisfaction guarantee. just to remind you. and for the price that your friend sold you that t.v., tell him that he would get about $150 more in a "spiff" if he would've sold you the diamond instead. he wins, you win. you get a better set and pay a "little" more, yet he gets paid more. just to let you know.
