I'm looking for something with decent capacity that can reliably cycle/shoot short and long as well as long rifle.

    Any other suggestions are appreciated.

I've got an older 983T, no complaints. I've probably taken more raccoons, crows, and gray diggers with it than any other gun.

I have an older marlin tube fed bolt gun in .22 magnum. It goes bang all the time feeds great. Got it for 50 bucks.

Not a bolt action, but I LOVE my Marlin 39a leveraction. Expensive, but it's built like a tank.

I have an older model, it's fantastic. I bet I've run 20K rounds through it with no real issues. The only thing that's ever gone wrong was when I haven't cleaned the barrel and chamber from over 5K rounds of non-plated cheap .22s. After all that I occasionally had a failure to extract. If you run a lot of shorts through there it will build up a ring of lead in the chamber that will need to be cleaned out thoroughly. Mine is very accurate, when I had a cheap BSA scope on there I could hit the spent berdan primers on 7.62x54r brass at about 25 yards.

    Cliffs: Go for it.

I've always thought the 981t seemed like a decent gun, although the cz bolts are sure tempting too

i'm going to shoot primarily shorts out of it so if i'm going to have to cycle an action it might as well be a bolt action

its semi auto, no cycling required

My father just bought an NRA edition Remington 552; both he and Remington claim that it will still cycle with shorts. His only gripe about the gun is that the action is really loud.
