I'm moving to Boston this following Sunday and did a search for local gyms around my apt and found a few within a mile, with Gold's Gym being one of them. I'm not looking for much in a gym, just so that it at least has decent cardio and weight equipment. A sauna, shower room, and a locker room would be nice as well. And if it has an indoor swimming pool, that would be even more  but I'm not really expecting them (or any gym for the matter) to have that amenity.

For those of you who are a member of Gold's Gym, how is it? Do these gyms offer a free trial period where you can go on a "test-drive" before you sign a contract?

    Thanks

i'm not a big fan of my local gold's gym. hot as hell inside, equipment spaced too closely together, only a few cardio machines, small ass locker room, didn't have a dip belt when i asked for it, little shit like that make it annoying. but it does have lots of power racks and squat racks.

I go to a gold's in new bedford.

There are several golds in boston. Some of them are shit ass trendy commercial gym types though. One or two of them are oldschool and still allow chalk and actually encourage heavy lifting.

I don't know about you guys, but I prefer small, locally owned gyms over the big chains. I travel for work so I get a new gym every month. I always enjoy the smaller gyms to the megahuge ones.

Well I'm not a Boston native so I'm not exactly familiar with all the mom-and-pop gyms. :dunno:

I just googled Boston gyms to see which gyms were near my apt. :dunno: But I do see what you mean, I'd definitely prefer small gyms over large commercially-marketed gyms due to the smaller crowds. If I can find one in Boston that's decent and not too expensive that would definitely be my choice.
