Will be there in a week or so. Heard Keesler can be a fun area--anyone been stationed down there and have some ideas on what to check out?

I was stationed there for 5 years. If you have specific questions, I can answer them.

You need to eat at The Shed BBQ in Vancleave.
Take HWY 57 to exit 57, yes, 57. Go north until you see the Shell gas station, take next left, stay to the left and park. No matter what the building looks like, go in and get the best BBQ you will find in MS.

i hear casinos are alot of fun even if u dont gamble (clubs, buffets, bars etc). the base services also provides alot of things such as skydiving, deep sea fishing, etc. on the weekends.

I was stationed there for three years..Only I was at the Seabee base, about 20 minutes away.

Go to Nawleans--it's only 1 hour away. The IP and the Beau are fucking great, hard rock is expensive. Don't go to strip clubs, wear a condom everywhere you go.

Stay clear of I-90 if you have a bike. The sand that blows up onto the road is a fuckin bust. Go down I-90 almost to I-49 and you'll find a great restaurant, can't remember the name but it's got a blue sign and it's amazing Italian.

Drive up and down Pass Road, they have some really good food places.

Mobile is only 45 minutes away too and Pensacola is only an hour and a half as well.

    I miss it..sort of..

1 year MIS, 1 semester pre engineering, & now fast track biology. I didn't want comm but they apparently had a great enough need to tag somebody with the minimum 12 hours math & comp sci credits. I wanted nothing to do with comm or computers other than being an end user. Luckily I had the opportunity to shadow a comm officer for a day to see what the job's really like. One of my buddies is also an enlisted comm guy and his wife is a comm officer so that helps. It isn't where I wanted to be but it's a job I can see myself doing.

so since it's a PCS does that mean I'm gonna have to find somewhere to live?

i dont think they've decided on that yet. u might be forced to stay in dorms unless u have dependents and u might be free to get a place. it all depends on how big the classes will be and if they'll have enough space.

that weird that they threw u into comm with only the minimums. what was ur major? what other afsc's did u apply for? i guess they really are ramping up for the new fancy cyber air force jazz.

From the sounds of things they found out how important comm is. they force shaped too many and comm officers are going to be a critically manned position.

my major now is a BS in Biology. AFSCs on my dream sheet were intel, aircraft maintenance and security forces. I left the other three blank because nothing else really interested me. according to most everyone leaving three spots blank was my problem. I even ran my dream sheet by my cadre before submitting it online and they didn't say a word about filling out the other three with something no matter how little it interests you.

yea thats pretty much what happened. but yea ur not supposed to leave anything blank on the 53 for those reasons. sucks ur cadre didnt tell u. but honestly be glad u didnt get SF. i've also heard mixed reviews about intel too. personally comm was my #2 with intel being my #1. but i was a comp sci major so i knew intel wasn't gonna happen. but i'm glad it turned out this way.

yeah, comm isn't the worst that could have happened. It's a job I think I can live with and it meets what I wanted for an AFSC which was deployment opportunities and the ability to use what I learned in the civilian sector. If not I can always take advantage of the career broadening program or try and reclassify.

While this is true, it is mandatory in a COMM officer's career progression, not in some others.

    Oh... and :ugh:
