dropped laptop. 1200 dollars to fix is what shop says.

What does the renter/laptop insurance usually do? Just give you the cash to buy a new laptop?

I also have the "replacement" value on the laptop, so they should give me the original price right?

LOL @ $1200. You can buy a new, upper-tier laptop for that much.

You know, I have the PC insurance, but I've never used it... I suppose you can always call USAA and ask. Might be best to hear it from the horse's mouth.

It sounds like you have it right. They shouldn't care. When I was buying my property insurance I actually asked all those questions to the girl. "What stops me from just telling you my TV got dropped and getting 1500 sent to me?" and she said... "Nothing. It sounds good on paper, but most of our customers wouldn't actually do that, so we just take the loss sometimes." :noes: She was right tho, I havn't done it yet.

I've also heard from a friend that you get full replacement. His computer was stolen and they cut him a check for a new computer that was a newer "equivalent".

If this part of the renter's insurance? In other words, do you need to have renter's insurance to get this additional coverage? Don't you have to provide some type of proof that you indeed own what you're claiming? I mean, it sounds too easy to abuse.

Ok guys, the claims adjuster went online, to HP.com, and rebuilt my laptop from scratch. He said this was the 2nd one he'd done that day.

Basically, they gave me the cost it would be to replace the laptop not to exact spec but to equivalent spec. Like my laptop had hd-dvd, well obviously thats not available so Blu ray is the option.

I had to go to a computer repair store, and they did an insurance quote on it (kinda like a car, but you have to pay for the quote), and they said it would not be worth repairing, when I could buy a new and better one.

So USAA deposited money in my account 1 day later.

Only computers and computer accessories. It's a special "rider" that you can purchase.

I bought mine long ago, when there was zero deductables. Now it's changed, there are deductables, but I still have zero deductable.
