I've had my S2 IS for almost 3 months now, and every photo I take still turns out like complete crap. Outdoors, bad lighting. Indoors, bad light, lots of noise and distortion, poor white balance, no focus. I haven't even begun to mess around with anything other than the Auto shooting mode since I'm going through 10-12 shots before I can get one thats visible.

Heres a few examples of the images I'm getting:
    Flash - http://www.wtfhost.com//files/25/IMG_0221.JPG
    No flash - http://www.wtfhost.com//files/25/IMG_0222.JPG
    indoor lights - http://www.wtfhost.com//files/25/IMG_0223.JPG

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I picked this cam because of this pics I've seen other people post from it, but I can't seem to replicate the same image quality and it's starting to tick me off.

Put the camera in P, turn the flash on, focus the camera, snap the picture, profit.

It is not focused correctly and you were too close for a flash on the first one. Try using the zoom and moving back for that shot but keeping the flash on.

Move farther back and zoom in when using a flash.

You can also try to get in a bright room and use a tripod to take the picture without a flash and a longer shutter time.

I highly recommend getting the Barbara London I think it was book on photography, get the latest edition and read it cover to cover, seems you need to learn the basics of photography exposure/framing/balance/line/composition etc etc This will start you off..

Sure it may seem pricey, but BELIEVE ME , this is THE only book you will ever need ;)

Just go out and shoot alot of pictures. You'll get alot of bad ones some okay ones and 1-2 great ones. Try and learn what you were doing when you got the great ones

That's the worst advice ever. He might get lucky and get a good shot but he'll have no idea of why.

Start by reading the sticky (photography 101) at the top of this forum.

The focus looks completely off. Maybe you aren't having enough light in the first place for proper autofocusing.

I have an S2 and while it is true it has a few focus problems you need to know that

    a) it needs more light so it works great in AUTO mode
    b) you need to understand how the shutter button works
    c) you need to understand how to get on focus lock and recompose....

read the sticky as it helps a lot, if you still have issues fell free to PM me

I got mine in January and while I completely suck at taking pics I love this camera..., let me post a few of the ones I think are good :o

I like those shots. The B&W may go into my wallpaper folder. Good job.

Thanks everyone for your advice and pms. I'm checking out the 101 Sticky right now, but I need to pick up some new batteries before I can start shooting again. I'll try to get some more shots this weekend.

If no one has mentioned it, you have a minumum and maximum range for the flash on that camera, usually 4-14ft or so. When I started with a 35mm I shot all the time, noting what changes I made so I'd know why there was a difference in shots. You can do the same. I had a S1 IS and it was a killer camera for the money. Trial and error is good for beginners but knowing what you can do with your presets may help you too.
