I know this forum is for people that are GLBT but I was wondering if anyone had a parent that was any of the above? My mom identifies as a lesbian now. Not sure how I feel about that.:dunno:

It's super complicated. We aren't dating...no commitment. We live together... and share a bed and she does get mad if I go out with other people. But there's no title because neither one if us wants a relationship...it's pretty messed up.

I don't think she's a lesbian...she was with my dad since she was 16 (she's 39 now) and has had a lifelong crush on Steven Tyler. She just completely changed after she "came out". Loves rainbows, the L Word, and going to gay bars. Ugh.

I want to know how she could be with a man for 20 years and how she could say this celebrity and that celebrity are "so attractive" and now she is completely repulsed by men.

Edit: I think the thing that upsets me the most is that I was lied to for my whole life basically.

I don't see how else to say this without being so blunt and dont take this as an attack.

You should feel happy for your mom, that she finally gets to live life the way she has most likely wanted to. The circumstances for which she was in the closet for 39 years are probably much more deep reaching than you know - you can always talk with her and find out :) Maybe tell her that you feel somewhat betrayed by her (but be supportive and loving! dont tell her you felt "lied" to - because thats mostly selfish - the last thing someone who comes out wants to hear is - "thanks for lying to me, i'd rather you have stayed in the closet"... first hand experience with that one - it sucks).

She came out 2 years ago but I guess I am still dealing with it. She lives in a different state with her girlfriend and my brother and sister so it's difficult to find time to talk about it.

Yes she does. There was another girl before this one too. My mom's exact words to me one day were "Well, I always knew you would grow up to be gay." She actually wants me to move down there to live with her so she can set me up with a nice girl. She thinks that is what will make me happy.

Support her and love her. That's all she probably asking you to do.

And as a lesbian myself, i still find some men attractive. Beautiful people are such a wonderful thing. Just because she still finds men attractive doesn't make her any less gay (for a better lack of words).

Hope that you and your mom have a wonderful realtionship. I just wish my mother would have been supportive of my decesions.
