    They have a 42" plasma screen for $2499 :eek3:

I wonder who makes them? I doubt Gateway is building TV's, probably just rebadging someone else's or contracting someone else to build them...

oh, and their put together by gateway from sampo and LG parts.

i forget who makes the tuner.

the low end one is OK...but the HD 42 is a better buy

    the 50" KINDA looks crappy

another alternative is the 42" EDTV ultrabright, i think it looks pretty decent

They can't be too bad - but Gateway is a horrible company that I try not to deal with.

If I didn't care about the quality, I would have just bought one without asking around. :hs:

    yeah exactly
they arent top of the line
but will do basically everything your average tv watcher wants/needs

manytimes with my amateur eye i usually dont see much of a difference between the image quality

although i have heard taht sonys easily last 10-12 years whereas others dont

I worked at a Gateway store for a little over a year as a PC tech. I used to go and watch movies on it during lunch. We never had a problem with ours and for the price it was a great deal. One of the sales lady sold 20+ of them to a guy opening a sports bar. When they first came out which was about a year ago we could not keep them in stock, there was a month or 2 waiting list.

I try to not buy Sony products anymore.
My TV was a little over 4 years old and it broke.
DVD player that is about 3 years old will not read DVDs anymore.
VCR that I bought with the TV will not eject tapes correctly, I have to push on the tape when the door opens.

But on the other side of the spectrum I have had the same sony handicam for about 4 yrs and I have a 8-10yr old tuner/receiver that still works.
