I'm thinking about getting rid of my much loved Legacy GT to get something "sportier". I've found an '07 g35 coupe that certainly wins out in appearance if nothing else.

Anyways, does any one have any experience driving a RWD G in inclement weather? I know tires make a world of difference, but I'm afraid that I will end up totally frustrated trying to drive the infiniti during are very long winters. And yes I know about the x models with AWD, but those get pricey.

I'm also having a hard time thinking I would actually be losing some performance going from a station wagon to a sports car. I hear mods for the Infiniti are few and expensive.

They come with pretty sporty tires. If you plan to drive it in ice/snow expect to buy some really good snow tires for it.

It isn't even about the tires man, he'd need a block heater to keep the engine from freezing solid overnight.

I've got about $500 in it now, and I'm sure it would already waste one. And there are plenty of rwd sports cars around here even in the winter, I'm just curious about the G specifically. I doubt are winters are much worse than yours, just longer.

It's not any different than any other car. I haven't had a block heater in my last 3 cars, but yes they do help.

...chances are since he's looking for a used car it'll already have one. If you have a garage and work where there's a parking garage it's not a big deal, but most people get them there anyway. So yes, the biggest problem will be traction during the winter. I learned to drive when I lived in Fairbanks so I know how slippery the roads can get and I wouldn't want a RWD G as my only car...the legacy is a good car and you're gonna miss it once winter hits.

I got a G35 but I live in Texas. But I'm thinking you wouldn't have that much problem driving in bad weather if you get a good set of tires. The car has a pretty good traction control system. Even if I try to whip my tail out in a water puddle, it will slip for a second and regain its composure pretty fast.

Well I got it, it's just too pretty to resist. Wish me luck come October.

Doesn't quite have the acceleration of my subie, but it completely outhandles it. Plus it has some cool features.

^^ what did you have done to your LGT? I drove an auto and that thing felt slow as hell. I know the 6-speeds are quite a bit faster but it was MUCH slower than my maxima, which is right in line with the G35/Z.

And congrats on the new car. I like that red with the polished wheels

It was a 5 speed 1st of all, quite a bit faster than the auto. And it was running a Cobb stage 2 tune with de-catted uppipe & downpipe. Under 5 sec to 60, and mid 13's quarter mile.

Snow tires and some bags of sand in the trunk you'll get around just fine.
