is the kit lens pretty decent? I assume it's worth at least $80..
but i'd probably get a 50mm 1.8 for a first lens with a new body (if you're new to slr's)
its worth in that to upgrade to a wide angle lens you would need to spend several hundreds
reviews I've seen for it aren't very good.. but it's only about $60 more than body only.. I'm tryin to decide if it's even worth the $60 if I only plan on having one lens for now
no it isn't good. but for someone just starting out would you get the kit lens for 60 or the 17-40 for 700? there isn't much in between thats any better, and the stuff that is in between is several hundred anyway.
looks like that lens is only about $75.. you think that would be better as my only lens for a while?
yeah I'm pretty new to SLRs
have any recommendations for a good walk around lens, then? in addition to the kit lens..
I didn't get the kit lens with mine, luckily I have a buddy who let me borrow his shitma
opps, though you were quoting me the first time. that response was to the kit lens, nothte 50mm
the 50 is fine. its slow and noisy to focus, but its sharp and decent. the 50mm f/1.4 is better, but its 300+
if you can spent some, the canon 17-85 IS will cover most everything
and yeah I was talking about the kit lens, too.. just didn't make that very clear
reviews for the 50 are pretty good
Post a few shots from the Shitma!
the tamron 28-75 is pretty good too
Speaking of my buddy Havn't had the time to take any yet
don't get derrict started
sure you did!
that doesn't count, but ok you got me. I'll upload a few maybe, i havn't even had the time to look at them yet. After I left amish country I got home at like 12, then looked a the pics for a minute then went to sleep. From that day it's been 12 hours of work every day
get the kit lens...$60 is nothing...by the way thats how much a 50 1.8 is, get both.
which is why we usually recommend getting the 50mm f/1.8 since it only costs $70-100 new and is capable of some great shots.
blah blah blah buy a cheap lense first blah blah blah practice blah blah blah learn which lens would suit your needs blah
70-200 IS all the way!! I want to use that shit for everything!! Ask derrict I couldnt wait to break out that bad boy!! Hell I don't mind having to step back 70mm from my subject the lens quality is amazing. When I put on the shitma I'm like because I'm soo in love with the quality of the 70-200. It's like your first car being a BMW then being forced to drive a ford focus...
almost 2 years later.. so glad I got the camera. and I'm in love with my 50/1.4
Just an fyi...I shot a series of test photos in our studio using a 30D and the kit lens vs my 17-40 L lens. I used a tripod and shot a focus chart at f/4 and f/22 on both lenses.
I couldn't tell the difference between the two lenses on my computer screen.
