with all the pressure and straining has anyone had problems like torn retina or vitreous detachment? or an increase in floaters?

I started to see a slight flash on my right eye on the right hand side. Got it checked out because I was scared I was getting a retinal detachment( can go blind) and it turned out to be a vitreous detachment of slight nature.

Usually with age that happens too but she said sports and weight lifting can cause it.

Now that I think about it, I've noticed a big increase in the number of floaters. I went from 5-6 to 15-20...annoyed the shit out of me for 3 months, but I stopped noticing them (I'm glad too). If I focus on them, I'll see about 12-15.

Yeah with floaters the brain eventually learn to ignore them just like tinnitus of the ear and and afew other things.

Hey hootpie when did you first notice your floaters? I was born with mine as far as I can remember when I was a kid.

I know what floaters are but what are they exactly and what causes them?

Your eye ball is made up of fluid and eventually that fluid shrinks abit or hardens up and creates little tears. The tears you see are little fibres of that fluid gel like substance so they float around inside your eye.

You might also have an incomplete blink . Therefore your eyes are getting dried and irritated.

I have had that happen once to me. Squatting hard and barely got back up and I saw moving stars in my eyes for about 30 seconds.
