What are usually the costs involved in getting a late-model car emissions-ready for the USA?

Car I'm interested in is a 1999 A4 Avant 2.8, so it's a model available in the USA...heard that makes it a bit easier. I live here in Germany, and I'm in the military, so shipping is not even an issue.

I think if you work for the military don't you get to bring back one vehicle nearly hassle free?

If they make you bother with emissions, you might just have to temp. swap the ECU, o2 sensor, cat maybe, etc to bring it to 'usa' limits...then swap it all back after it passes inspections. :dunno:

it depends on which state your trying to bring it in. it's almost impossible to do this in california or florida w/o meeting "mr. goodfarkingluck" you'll most likely need to ship the rolling chasis and engine/tranny seperate. it'll be registered under a "kit car"
