Only fired a 0.22 rifle and a 0.22 handgun in my life. Was told that 0.22 was what first-timers usually used so fired that.

Is there a good site to read up more on guns, different types of ammunition, etc?

What about a good site to buy ammunition from? Thanks.

    handguns mostly

i guess i woud mostly rent and fire the .22 until i get more comfortable and then move up to 9mm or .38??

was looking to buy bulk .22 ammo and bring them to the range to use...any recommendations?

  5. You'll have to try different .22 ammo. The guns can be picky about what works well in them, and you usually just have to try different kinds to find what works best for you.

When you ask for .22, say 22 long rifle (.22lr).

thehighroad.org is a good all around gun discussion board. A lot of knowledge on there. You'll should be lurking for a while.

My first pistol I shot was a .45 then a 44 magnum right after. I am a small guy as well and had no problems handling either. I say you should just jump into whatever caliber you want instead of going from lowest to highest.

Gee, there wouldn't be a sticky answering that question...

To answer your question, most people have no trouble firing 9mm handguns right off the bat. Recoil and muzzle snap are reasonable, ammo is inexpensive, almost every pistol manufacturer makes 9mm models, and the cartridge is considered sufficient for self-defense.
