I can't squat properly cause i'm so inflexible. That is... using an athletic stance I cannot get to parallel... im almost there but I tense up quite a bit. If I go wider I can go lower but I don't feel im hitting the quads enough and feel like I'm losing a lot of power.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and what did you do to overcome it?

Stretching is one of the best things for you, I actually recommend a yoga video. They are really relaxing, and a good workout.:bigthumb:

i was thinking of taking up yoga...for the stress relief mainly, but flexibility would come in handy, too :naughty:

$60 for that program? Maine, I take it you think it's worth it? I'm not planning on competing ever, so would it still be worth it to me?

I like yoga, and pilates, FWIW. Mind you- for the longest time I held the "that's for pussies, and my boyfriend's mom" attitude. Then I actually tried it  that's an ab workout and a half. My flexibility is slowly getting better, I'm doing 2-3 sessions a week.

You can get yoga dvds for cheap on amazon. If you're going to do it, just make sure to get a yoga mat, makes it a LOT easier when you're not sliding around on the floor.

Yeah I used to say the same thing until my ex-gf took me to a class a few weeks ago. It was me, 30 young hot moms who were obviously in desperate housewife mode (I told them I ran a gardening service this summer if they wanted to hire me :mamoru:), and a few high school girls. And it kicked the CRAP out of me, and I can tell that flexibility has a direct effect on my weight training in most cases.

I had a very stiff set of hams from high school, but martial arts workouts and some pilates took care of it in a few months. I'm no contortionist, but my flexibility now is pretty good. One thing you should know: Do not buy Elastic Steel by Paul Vaichek. That was a waste of 30 dollars for me. I've seen him advertised a bit lately and I hope people aren't falling for it.
