i got a pack of 1 of each 64 bit bit pcs, 32 bit pcs, and mac.
they are professionally done, they aren't cheap cd-rs
    they came shipped from france
you get an install cd and a live cd for each system

the 64 bit cds aren't able to be read. i tried a couple of different computers and different cd rom drives.
kinda sucks, i wanted to try it out on my amd athlon 64 3000+ pc.
i've burnt the livecd for 64 bit before, i'm downloading the install cd now

I just got a pair in today. I'm looking forward to trying the virtual machine type one. I don't feel like messing around with a big learning curve, so I'm going to try that one first. If I like it, I might put it on one of my 10k scsi backup drives.:coolugh:

I order boxes of 50 and give them away to people at school. I've given away probably 150 this term. They're great because they look professional and have instructions and things in the little package. If you want to convince someone to try Linux, they're a great way to go.

If you order right now, I'm not sure that you'll get them as quickly, since they might not be shipping any more until the new release comes out (sometime in April). Not sure on that, though, they may still be shipping 5.10 CDs.

i installed it on my amd athlon 64 computer, with the 64 bit disk. it's ok, it uses gnome, which is typical, either that or kde it seems like nowadays.

i started up samba after installing it and sharing a folder, then i proceeded to my windows pc to see if i could access that folder...nope, on the windows network, it kept asking for a password...i tried alot of different stuff, but no luck.

it takes about 2x longer to startup than xp pro does on my pc, but thats no big deal (considering you rarely need to restart a linux pc)

i don't think i will use it. although one thing i like is that i can OBEX bluetooth to send stuff from my phone to my pc. i used to be able to do it, before i installed service pack 2, now it's not supported.

Ubuntu sent me hundreds of CDs... I think most of them hit the trash.

because the packaging is professional for once on a free linux distribution and includes both install and live cds. it's nice to give away something that looks nice. plus, people love getting free stuff.

:werd: I'm on the exec of an open-source software advocacy and users' group. We like to try and convince people to at least try Linux and other open-source software - to give it a chance. If you hand someone a burned CD and say "here, try this," it looks bad. They figure it's not trustworthy. Hand them a nicely-packaged 2-CD set with logos and URLs and instructions on it, and they're far more likely to give it a shot, or at least refrain from throwing it in the nearest trash.
