There is one opening up near me, and they are advertising $20/month membership. I was thinking of signing up, but from the website, it looks a little too much like a bally's or a 24hr fitness - the only pictures of free weights they have are the dumbbell racks (5-100lb :ugh:)

probably going to pass on joining, but wanted to know if anyone has experience with them.

My g/f and friend went to one for a while. Basically they said it is your typical "cheap" gym. Nothing too great or impressive, but for the money it is "not that bad".

If you are on a big budget and do not mind how crowded it can get since they are so small it is not bad. Personally, I would rather find another gym and shell out an extra $10-$20 a month for a better place.

yeah i think i will stick to another gym, even though it would be twice the cost per month, at least I won't have to worry about the senior citizens and soccer moms getting in the way of some serious lifting.

I worked out at the one on 10th St. in Indy when I was visiting for the F1 race. It seemed decently equipped, despite dumbells up to 100. Big freeweight area, mostly serious lifters, plenty of plates, and there was evidence of chalk all over the floor.

that's good. I just don't want to sign up and it be a country club atmosphere. I might sign up since there's no commitment and it's only $20 a month.
