I was reading a training book and it cautioned about not doing the over under grip on deads due to the fact that the under grip arms bicep has a tendency to be injured. I've never had an issue **knock on wood** but was wondering if anyone has.

On a side note I think this is why my right bicep is bigger than the left one. I use the under grip with my right arm. I kinda want to switch it up but it feels too weird. :noes:

The first day I started using over/under I switched between every set so as to not get an "imbalance". OCD bro. IIRC it won't just imbalance your biceps, but your traps and scapula as well, because the angles are all changed when you rotate your arm. Best just to start using under/over for a while.

But my deadlift isn't big enough to worry about injuring my biceps yet, so out.

I do doubt that would be the reason for the asymmetry. It could be why you favour your right for the under grip. I was the same when I was doing deads but r. arm has always been bigger.
Wasn't it Jeff (Barbarawalters) who tore his biceps doing deads or rack pulls?

time to start fapping with the left arm:hsugh:

srsly....I tried left under right over one day, and just wasnt comfortable. I'll go double over up to about 350, anything over that I go mixed. Never really noticed if one arm was bigger than the other, but I'm fat and dont pull enough either.

I switched from an opposing grip to a double overhand due to pain in my shoulder related to stress on the bicep tendon. 2 weeks later and the pain gone, and I can do direct bicep work without pain again

I have doing rev band pulls.

My left bicep is bigger and it's the underhand but it's been that way since before I started lifting.

Also said he was born with an irregular bicep connection in that arm, iirc.

I ruptured my long head on my right arm doing heavy deads. I always heard that rack pulls with over under was alot worse then deads. My bicep was partially torn already just wasnt anything i could do about it at the time. Now i have a hole in my arm.

Considering most folks actually are assymetrical, irregardless whether they do deads or not, that's a huge assumption.
Only way I would even begin considering that is if KIDDR says his left is his dominant yet smaller arm. Even then, I wouldn't necessarily make that conclusion.

    Damn.
Yeah, folks apparently are more likely to bend the undergrip arm during rack pulls moreso than with deads from the floor.

It's not the main reason I pull hook grip, but it's a pro. I know lots of strongmen/powerlifters who have torn biceps deadlifting.

i was just thinking though, the weights change each set so i wonder if it'd be better to switch grip right after setting it down.

when i said mid set i meant i change my grip from one set to the next.

    not after each rep.

I switch between sets and maybe switch within the set when I rep it out on the last set.

Actually I am left arm dominant :noes: The left arm is stronger too, I always assumed since I am better with my left that I was some how cheating with it on curls.

I fucked up my bicep doing heavy yates rows and I have to be really careful on deads.

Luckily its the left arm which I use an overhand grip with but I'm waiting for it to snap off on a heavy attempt.

I used to go staggered but after being warned by several experienced people about this I stopped. Now I stick with double-over hand.
