buydig.com is selling refurbished d50s for 399 body only..now im thinking for my friend who is strapped in cash she could buy one and a 28-70 2.8 sigma lens for 500 and keep everything just under 1k.

Anyone else think that would be a good way to start a DSLR system?

I posted this link not too long ago. If someone is on a budget, it's not a bad deal. Refurbished items are generally just as good as buying a new product.

If your friend isn't stuck on getting a Nikon, Canon 300 and 350Ds are starting to hit the $450-550 price ranges due to the release of the 30D. Add a 28-75 Tamron f/2.8 for $330 (~ $30 MIR) and it's still under the $1k budget.
