Tons. I work with kids in a substance abuse prevention organization now, I interned there and decided to work with the kids until the end of the school year. I've volunteered at non-profits and in schools as well. Also at the YMCA.

little bit, but just for work, whenever our employer does something for the town.

my friend has volunteered for special olympic events around here and she says it's not really worth it unless you know people/families. She says most of the stuff is already done or handled by the parents of the children that there's always an overflow of volunteers. Most of the time she just stands around.

Not sure how it is in DC.

I volunteer at a homeless shelter pretty frequently. Mainly working in the kitchen and serving food.

I volunteer firefight. It's a little different than normal vol work, requires alot more time commitment and works best if you are slightly insane (running into burning buildings for free)

I used to volunteer for the BSA, a few local charities, Red Cross, church projects.
