Sorry guys, I don't have a subsciption right now so I can use the search button :(

I'm considering leaving the AF to fly helos in the Army and I've got some questions:

Whats life like in the Army compared to the AF?

To start the process do you just talk to an Army recruiter or do they have specific guys that handle Warrent Applications the way they do with Os?

Army doesn't have specific recruiters just for Officer/Warrant Officer candidates, just talk to a normal Army recruiter and tell them that you want to submit a WOCS application.

still not finished with school...they spend alot on us so i dunno how easy it would be to get out and transfer over

i really want to fly though...i originally joined to use the gi bill to cover my flight costs...ive got about 1.5 years left to finish my bachelors

the more i think about it though the more flying helo's might be the way to go

Don't forget the Army does have a small contingent of fixed wing aircraft which are flown by Warrant Officers. FYI

ya this is true..but i think even flying helo's would be a good way to start

eventually i just want to fly for the airlines ..i used to work for delta in cincinnati and i talked to alot of comair pilots (its one of their bases) and i talked to quite a few navy and army guys that flew rotary in the service then converted to fixed via comair

they said its not really all that different

i really need to look into this..how hard is it to get a slot though? Is it like trying to get an air force pilot slot?

that's a site, with a contact or two via email/phone....the Army does not have specific recruiters who only do WOCS/OCS like the Navy does. You get in contact with those people and they'll tell you to visit your local Army recruiting office.

I know in the PA National Guard, there is a Warrant Officer that handles all recruiting duties. He'll help you get your packet together, make sure you meet all the requirements or help you get a waiver. He also runs the Pre-WOC course in Pennsylvania that is a requirement for all PA Guard members going to WOC school at Ft Rucker.

They do have specific recruiters for Warrant Officers. Why don't you email them and see what they say?

Yeah, you're more than likely gonna have to wait until your 3 year mark if you enlisted for 4, or your 5 year mark if you're in for 6. But it never hurts to ask, especially in these days of force shaping. I'd love to fly, but since I now have asthma, outlook not so good.
