Isnt there a little more planning about size, etc? Dosen't the sub need a box with a certain amout of space to function best?

You need to be a little more specific. What type of music do you listen to? Is this going into a car, truck, hatchback, coupe, sedan? What's you budget like? Do you have an amp already?

If this is for a subwoofer, it is much easier than a full-range loudspeaker to design and build.

If you have the theile/small parameters for your woofer (QTS, FS, and VAS) then you have all that is necessary to make rudimentary enclosure calculations.

Is this subwoofer for music, movies or both? What is the budget? How much space can you allocate to the subwoofer?
