I remember a few people here having gone to Tokyo before. I'm heading out in early October, wanted advice on things to do, places to go, threads to fail...

    I was there last year.

Buy a JR East rail pass. It will get you virtually everywhere you want/need to go. They are only available to tourists, so you have to get one before you leave. Getting around on the JP rail lines is super easy if you're not colourblind.

Check out shinjuku for the red light district, harajuku for the anime freaks, shibuya for the lost in translation intersection, akihabara for the electronics goodies, ueno for the zoo, and yokohoma area or saitama super arena for the DREAM shows.

Credit cards and debit cards are accepted at virtually no places in japan (save for the odd hotel/hostel) so bring cash money yen.

I didn't try and check out any gyms over there, so I can't help you on that one.

And go to Hiroshima if you have the time. It was the highlight of my trip. Beautiful city, you'd never know it was decimated, and a stark reminder of just how good we have it.

There's so much to do out there. If you want to train, there are places everywhere. If you have any interest in Judo, I hear there are some decent schools out there lol

Completely false. It's as expensive as you want to make it. I'm sure if you tried to find a steak in tokyo, it'd be $50. But why would you go to Japan to eat steak? You can eat out where the locals do, and get fed for $5 - $10.

It can be a sensory overload at times, but it's hardly in your face. Japanese people are the politest on earth.

no desire to train. Gonna be in Tokyo for a week and then I have 3 days to go wherever else.

Just checked and the K-1 World max Finals in labeled as "Mid-October". I'm just praying that means some time between October 5th and 14th.

cause i'm broke and need a vacation REALLY bad. Good friend from work is going for a convention and I can share his hotel room (no homo). Flight was only $604. And if I hang out with him and my other coworkers, odds are they'll pay for many of my meals and just expense them.

Also I speak a fair amount of japanese, plenty to get me around the city. Bad enough that the girls laugh at me because I talk like a girl.

    Congrats on the house Checkii!

I am also super jealous you are going to Japan :wtc:. Any room for me in the suitcase? I don't care if you don't bring me back either :mamoru: I only speak slang Japanese from all my years of watching jorama's and animes.

Wait Roose did you just say Japan has a red light district? the hell?

if you associate the word JAPAN with the word ARCADE then you are a huge nerd.

i went to the anime expo this weekend there were alot of japanese people there so i guess thats kinda like tokyo without the neon buildings and everything. afterwards i headed down to little tokyo to get some quality japanese food, pork cutlet bento box with like all the fixings you know.

anyways, you should check out the anthony bourdain show, he did a little piece on tokyo, it was cool. there was this one scene where he got naked and stood underneath this ice cold waterfall, they said it's good for the soul, so i'd bet my life on it like all the jap mma fighters are freqent regulars there.
