I'm currently still at my first duty station in the Air Force, being Davis Monthan AFB, and I've been here for a bit over 2.5 years. Trying to get orders, or retrain or something. Always was curious about Loadmaster.

Anyone have any info on it? and how painful is retraining?

    Gay name, bad ass job.

Ranger-AO was a loadmaster back in the day, he might be able to help you out.

I was seriously thinking about crosstraining into this. But it's so late in my career I decided that stability was more important to me.

I really wish I had done a job like that while I was younger.

I thought about putting it on my wish list when i was trying to figure out what job I wanted, but my recruiter said not to bother, that flight jobs never open up.

Not true. All career fields that are open to junior enlisted need to have a constant influx of fresh airmen to maintain manning numbers. Flight jobs are no different.

They've been looking to fill flight engineer slots for the past couple of years. Two years ago they were looking for boomers and loadmasters.

If you want it, and you can pass a flight physical, go for it... and tell your recruiter you're willing to wait for a slot to open up, assuming you are actually willing to wait.

My recruiter wanted me to leave for basic training before I graduated high school because he didn't think another slot would open up any time soon. I told him to pound sand, because there was no way I was going to skip my state track competition.

Another slot opened three weeks after the first one I was offered.
