Anyone a member of the US Army Corps of Engineers?

I'm considering a position as a civilian contractor deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, and was wondering if anyone is/was a member or knew anyone that's done it.

Specifically was it worth the year+ abroad, good experiences with the people (both military and locals), how the insurance is ( :o ) etc.

i am a part of the corps of engineers but on the military side and in training :mamoru:
all of the others in the civilian sector that i know have not left the states

i would say go for it...the experience alone would be worth it

The positions I'm applying for are based in Iraq and Afghanistan - I'm aiming for the hazard pay :bigthumb:

I'm also looking to get out of the country, and see some parts of the world that I otherwise wouldn't be able to experience. Plus, I'm a history buff so if there's something called "free time" I'd like to take in whatever I could find.

Did I mention hazard pay? :o

Civilian contractor hazard pay is 15-25%, after 15-25% for foreign deployment. (I'm fairly certain they compound in that order, it may just the % of the base pay)

So, it'd be a wee bit more than $150 a month :hyper:

I work in engineering in the AF but im enlisted.. my last job when I Was in florida was the Milcon inspecor for the army core and I got my wife a GS job there working with them. We are now in England and if we werent Id still be working with, it was prob the best job I had whilst in the AF..
