i've used it a bit, definitely a great program. the 30gig download on oink is the whole suite. you can get just Final Cut Pro off of other torrents sites like thepiratebay. it took me a little while to figure out how things worked on it, but once i did, it was an awesome program to use. you could ask people like Yardsale, who use it all the time for more info. i know he will definitely recommend it.

i think it would be worth trashing my oink ratio (read: account) just for the suite.

honestly just get final cut pro

the massive part of it is motion 2, which you probably won't use until you get much more advanced.

yeah, just get FCP, it should be about a gig in size...
the rest of it is a mix of Motion/DVD Studio Pro template stuff that sucks up space...probably Soundtrack Pro audio loops as well.

Is Final Cut Express 3.5 that crippled when compared to Final Cut Pro? Is it suitable for someone just learning?

not that cripled. I doubt you'll be doing any keyframing or heavy batch logging. On the other hand, if money is no object, starting off in FCP is better than FCE because both are going to be about the same learning curve.
