Is there a typical filter that you can use for all pics, to just keep on the lens kinda for protection? I was thinking a UV filter for mine, but does it affect all pictures in any bad ways?

I keep a UV filter on all my lenses all the time. I may take them off when I'm in the studio but otherwise they stay on the lens. A good UV filter won't affect your picture quality but I'm of the belief that the less glass the light has to go thru the better the pic.

Thanks, I guess I'll get a UV filter and put on my lenses. I don't have any good lenses yet, but a little inexpensive protection won't hurt.

    dot.

If I am taking photos of something important I take the filter off. Otherwise it stays on. Don't care if the filter gets wet and wiped with my shirt and then smeary, at least I know I'm not screwing up a $300 lens.

I have UV filters on half of my lenses, the other half I don't worry too much about (fisheye - impossible, 50mm - trash, 100-300 - 12" hood, lol)
