I'm looking into one, among others. It will be a couple weeks before I can get home from school to the range I go to and try one out, so in the meantime, what are your thoughts on it? I don't know if I want a .40 or 9mm, I'm sorta leaning toward the 9mm for the cheaper ammo.

What do you want to do with it? Defense? Target shooting? Show and tell?

I have a 96. The only reason I got it is b/c I was seeking a trade for a Sig Pro and was looking to take anything instead of that POS pistol.

Anyhow, the 96 is fine. I would prefer a 92, but beggers can't be choosers. I refinished the gun with DuraCoat and it rides in my car. It's been there for about 2 years and the only rust is on the grip screws. I'll replace them one day with stainless ones, but honestly, I could care less about the rust since it's a glove box gun.

My friend has one, and I am going to buy one this year. Very nice gun that I shoot really well.
If you can afford the OEM mags, get them. Some of the knockoffs are poor quality.

It's a brick, but if you're only using it at the range, that's not an issue. Either the 9 or the 40 is very pleasant to shoot, but 9mm will be cheaper in ammo costs.

    crappy triggers
    flimsy frame
    huge grip
    unbalanced weight
    loose slide to frame tolerance

it has the SIG name without the Sauer quality. it shoots ok for a service pistol, but it's $400 brand new for a reason.

if i want a conventional DA plastic gun, i'd get an HK USP.

the Sig Pro is pretty much the lame duck of the Sig family. it's like a C class Benz... it's a budget Benz targeted for people who cant afford a real Benz.

actually even though taurus use beretta's old tooling machine for their pt92/pt96 seiries the quality is not up to par with berettas.

There's nothing wrong with the Taurus, they just don't have the Beretta name on the side. Plus, if anything ever goes wrong with the Taurus, you have that lifetime warranty to back you up.

Aside from a mag that got worn out I've never had a problem with it. It shoots very well, It's heavy if you wanna pack it around, but it holds 15+1 so lil weight and its not all plastic like some of those p.o.s. its real metal. I've never had anyone complain about it while shooting or have major malfunction(like some of those glocks that blow apart). On ot they're 3 classes of gun peeps: the glock jocks, the highend guys(brand namers) who think if its less than $300. its junk and then everyone else. not that a glock is bad just its not a cure all to everyone. And admittedly there are total crap guns under $300. but not all. I would pit my Taurus against anyone wanting to use it for a home defense weapon or a range weapon.

nothing wrong with taurus great guns for the money but after all its a beretta clone its not the same.compare my fs92 with my buddy pt92 just from observation my beretta have better accuracy, trigger is smoother, better machine parts, fit and finish is superior.as far is lifetime warranty its more of a marketing hype hipoints have no question ask lifetime warranty, would i buy a hipoint? no because i know i would be wasting my time and money sending it back in my opinion if you get a good quality firearm and you take care of it it should last you for long time.

I agree. I would'nt claim it to be a Beretta but for what Alpheaus is looking to use it for. The Taurus would be a better pick if you like the Beretta styling and can still be cost effective for a target/home pistol. Why spend $4-500. on a Sig, Glock, Colt, CZ or HK (all nice btw) to shoot paper? If you have future plans for an investment or to conceal (which this fucker is heavy) Then all valid points to look for something of substance. I look at it all like a mechanic would look at his tool box. I could spend 80 bucks on a MAC tool wrench or go to Sears and get the near same thing for 40. with the same warranty. But if i was in NHRA i would need the better. Same thing applies here. Just shooting paper in the end....:)
