I'm specifically looking to talk to someone who rents dedicated boxes and sells shared hosting. If anyone here has experience i'd like to pick your brain for a second.

I installed that last night. Is it super difficult to have it automatically create / remove accounts for new sign ups and canceled recurring bills?

At the moment, WHMCS. We'll have our own software ready in the next month or so though.

WHMCS is the best of a bad bunch.

Modernbill is extremely difficult for someone new to the industry to understand. It is not user friendly by any means. However, it has the most features and does quite a bit of stuff.

From my experience, their support sucks, and updates are few and far between.

Then there is WHMAutopilot. Another good piece of software, a little easier to learn and understand, but still difficult. Support is better, although they just recently redid their website, and have yet to reopen their user forum :ugh2:. Their helpdesk gets fairly quick generic responses, and then you have to remind them to update you on fixes.

Those are the few that I have experience with.

There is not one of the above that are ideal for your company, or anyone elses. If you want something truly professional and fitting for your company, fork out the money to have one custom built for you. :o

I'm not looking to start a full scale hosting company. I really just need recurring billing. My plan for building this up is selling hosting to clients I build websites for.

If I just wanted a basic hosting service that offers 4-5 packages and have WHM installed on my server, will WHMCS not meet my needs?

Pretty much any of them will fit your needs at that level.

Weird bugs, can be inflexible, security vulnerabilities. It's not a bad piece of software by any means, and gets the job done. It just could be a lot better. :)

But yeah, it will work for what you want it to do. :)
