anyways i wanna create a website that has chatrooms for the hispanic comunity, but I want it to be similar to forums, in the sense that you have to create a profile. Is there any good software out there for this?

    I basically want:
    1. be able to create profile
    2. Private Messaging.
    3. be able to create many chatrooms

if anybody could point me in the right direction that would be great. :wavey:

I like this forum btw, i just notice it today :mamoru:

Personally... I don't think chat rooms work. Unless you have a site that gets thousands and thousands of visitors a day, the roooms are always going to be empty, thus scaring other people away.

All they have to do is log onto MSN or AIM and go into a chat room there :dunno:

yeah true but I have been asking people if they like the chatrooms of yahoo or myspace, and they say it sucks...

so I dunno, maybe there's a website with chatrooms + with profiles out there already... i need to do more research

Yeah, I'd do a little more research into it first. I mean sure, there could be a huge demand for it. I just haven't seen any demand for chatrooms since the late 90's when they became nothing but spambot breeding grounds. I think people have gone more to IM and forums than a chat room type deal.

Although.... a forum that behaved more like a chat room might be useful :dunno:

thats the main problem, spam bots, that's why people dont like chat rooms, so I think a chatroom with profiles will keep them out, and with good moderation of course...

yeah just like in a forum you have an avatar, and a "view your profile"...I think people would like that.

Well, just because you have a profile does'nt mean spambots won't get in. Anyone who's ever run a forum will tell you that :o

With a couple security measures, i'm sure you'd be fine.

Chat rooms are hard to keep around. I had one that ran on the IRC you could change it to any server but was difficult for IRC n00bs to understand but never got spammed. But no one ever used it http://irc.webmaster.com is what I ha dused
