I'm 44 and took 2 years off from the gym, started back 3 months ago with my 2 sons 14 and 16

I am almost back to the numbers I was at before except for squats, my sons are making great progress they both can bench 115 for 6-8 reps and will be doing a plate a side in no time

at first it was tough to train 2 people and myself but now I enjoy it we work out 5 days a week

    so anyone else do this?

When I'm in Cali (2-3 times per year usually) I workout with my nephews. They're now turning 16 and 20 this year.

so I take it they started lifting with you around the same time? interesting that a 14 year old and a 16 year old are progressing at the same rate (at least on bench) what are some differences you've noticed between the two of them in the gym if you don't mind me asking.

The 14 year old is just more motivated because I told him the truth the chicks like jacked guys.
They are both strong on leg presses with the last set 6x45 @12 reps but they had alot of trouble doing free wieght squats even with a pad on the bar, thinking its just because they don't have upper back muscles yet and they are mostly the same on all other exercises

I trained with my dad all the time back in the 80s/90s, and when I go back home to visit him.

My old man is diesel as fuck for 70 this July. Plays hockey 3x a week, works out, rides his bike.

He started taking me to the gym when I was around 14, and it's stuck with me ever since. I think it's a great way for parents and kids to connect. He brought my sister too, and she's probably better built than 90% of the people on here. :big grin:

I def. will teach my kids to work out.

Connecting to my kids and getting back into it is the biggest reasons I do it, after I get my cardio up we are also going to join a new Muay tai ( typo) gym that just opened up and its only 20$ per month each!

Grandpa used to take my brother and I to the Y and work out when we were kids. Basketball, swimming, martial arts, etc. He is in his mid 70s and still works out. :eek4:

Someday I want to do the same thing with my kids/grandkids.
