Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems like Lenovo has been steadily decreasing the quality of Thinkpads since they bought the rights to the name. The ThinkLights aren't as bright, the batteries don't last as long, the gaps between the mouse buttons are wider, the plastic feel more brittle and less textured...etc...

    Is it just me?

It's true - I think they've run out of parts from the old plant - I'm pretty sure the last one I got no longer had IBM Thinkpad on it. I wouldn't doubt that Lenovo will start slipping - their 3000 series sucked balls.

The latest upgrade batch of our Thinkpad T60s and T61s (upgraded from T41, T42) have had nothing but issues. Absolutely shitty battery life, poorer build quality, and a host of other things have led us to believe that we should have just upgraded the RAM of our T40 series.

That being said...the X60/61 is a very cool device indeed (with the exception of the battery life). I grabbed me one from the loading dock and have throughly enjoyed it.

I told you. I was just in the market and I looked at all the competitors. I ended up with the Dell M1330.

You think that Dell has better build quality than Lenovo. You're so full of shit that I can smell the stink over ethernet.

Oh sure, compared to Dells they're still good, no doubt. But compared to the ThinkPads with the IBM logo on them...not so much.

she got the machine for christmas... It has the "thinkpad" logo on it.

I'm not talking about a 3000 series.... I'm talking about a thinkpad. You do realize that Lenovo makes those, right? And in fact, Lenovo has made them for probably around 7+ years.

See if it has IBM written on it anywhere. I'm gonna double check the one I just got in on Friday but I'm almost certain they've finally dropped the IBM.

the quality has gotten a lot worse, right after the t41/t42 model line.

The help desk at my old place started to see a lot more lenovo's coming back.

At my current place during the monthly problem stat reports the help desk team gradually ramps up tickets for t6x issues. *6* lenovo's currently are the biggest offender for all desktop/laptop hardware issues here.

The lenovo account exec is going to get chewed out if this trend continues...

We only use IBM/Lenovo at work and the very early T6x series has screen problems, but as of late everything seems to work very well.

Yeah, it has a Thinkpad logo. But it doesn't have an IBM Thinkpad logo. Lenovo bought the rights to the Thinkpad brand -- they're not going to put another company's name on the thing. And yes, I know we were talking about Thinkpads; I didn't say it specifically, I suppose, but it never even occurred to me to talk about the 3000 series.

    Who are you lecturing here?

I'm partial to Fujitsu myself. But for business use, yeah, Lenovo still wins.

One thing for sure, is that a companies rep is everything.

They're going to need to tighten up on the problems if they want to stay on top.

It's a shame that IBM got out of pc parts. Everything they did was built like a tank.

As far as I know, IBM never actually built any laptops; they just wrote up the specs and farmed the work out. Which is fine, but now that IBM isn't speccing new machines, I think the Thinkpad brand is going to tank.

Not saying the Chinese make cheap garbage or anything like that. :mamoru: They can certainly make good stuff, but they don't seem to have any interest in producing quality product on principle alone.

I don't doubt that they had all of their stuff farmed out. With the exception of hard drives, until they sold that to Hitachi.
But that's the same as Honda or Toyota, that come here and use outside parts suppliers. The parts suppliers know they have to keep quality high, or get canned.

Just confirmed it - the new ones are sans IBM. I was ordering T61's last year and they had it on there. :wtc:
