MIL Anybody been stationed in Alaska??

    I found out this morning at PT that i'm PCSing to Alaksa in September... anybody been there? How is it... I'm pretty excited but don't know anything about it other than there's a lot of snow and I need to sell my car...

    My buddy came from Alaska. He said it was cold. Played alot of video games. PT outside when its freezing cold, FTX's in the freezing cold. Make alot in BAH if you can get it. Have fun!

    Where at in AK, i was with task force 49 at Wainwright and i loved it. Weather wasn't as bad as i thought and fairbanks really isn't that bad.

    edit: i'd go back in about 4 seconds if they ever let me

    Thats what I hear from 90% of the people I talk to who have been stationed there.

    the only thing that got me was when i forgot to plug my car in at night, then having to get a ride to pt in the am

    Buddy of mine was gonna be stationed by Fairbanks....after all the checking into it he was psyched about going.



    Then a week before we was suppost to leave they changed it to washington st.

    I was stationed at Elmendorf for a while. Once I got up there and lived there for a while, I started to not like it since its so isolated and whatnot. But its one of those things that you never know what you have til you don't have it anymore. Yes, the winters are long. But temperature wise, but if you're in Anchorage, its tolerable. Shit, it gets colder here in Chicago than it did up there. Where are you being stationed? Ft Richardson? Ft Wainwright? Ft Rich is better just cuz its in a major metropolitan area (Anchorage) and there's a lot to do. Wainwright is right outside Fairbanks and there aint SHIT to do there. Fairbanks winters SUCK.
