Old mobo fried recently and all my files are still on that hdd.

However, they're mainly in the user account folder, which of course is restricted as it's an NTFS partition.

    Any way to bypass this?

Put the drive in another computer. Get your files.

Which is exactly what I'm doing on this computer; however, Windows will not let me.

Put the drive in an XP Pro machine. Make sure simple file sharing is disabled. Make yourself the owner of the folder and all child objects. Then give yourself full control over the same.

I've fortunately never had to do that, but I've spotted that answer
several times so I wonder how you take ownership of a folder...

    security tab?

I don't see that in a folder, or in folder options.

That was it. I always turn that off, and for some reason I hadn't done that yet on this install.

    Gracious! :bigthumb:
