Lets say you have your liter bike, and tear the road up with that thing... would you even get on a Ninja 250R for fun that would surpass the liter bike you have in any aspect?

I'm going to be getting the 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R (in black) when it comes out. I'm mad fucking excited, it's going to be my first bike!!!!! :big grin:

I'm also a new rider, but maybe you should get a used 250 instead?

I don't get the point of your first bike being brand new.

the reason he's looking at a new one is because the 08+ is a full redesign, whereas the 07 is the same (other than colors, stickers, and a couple wiring changes) as the 88.

I know a couple people who have 250s as well as much faster bikes, but they like being able to wind out the 250 without being on the lookout for cops. it's also really cheap to ride, and steers VERY quickly - narrow tires may not be great for grip but they are great for turn-in.

I recommend taking the MSF course if you havent yet. after that, invest into some frame sliders and other sliders that protect the exterior of the bike. you'll be in awe shape when you drop that beatiful 2008.

Not sure if it'll be able to use frame sliders, I know the 88-07 can't.

Clearly you're listening to the wrong people :p
Do not buy a brand new R6. It is not a starter bike, period. The FZ6 would be a decent choice though.

get a 600 250 is too weak and you'll just want to get rid of it after a short time.

:ugh: yes let's get a peaky bike with 110hp+ and a 16 000rpm redline as a starter... sounds like a fantastic idea... what could possibly go wrong? Not to mention the several thousand dollar price difference.

OP, congrats on the good choice, the new 250R is sexy looking, and those things are a blast to rip around on. Don't listen to people that tell you you need to start on a 600, you will have a much easier time and become a much better rider starting on a 250. I wish I could afford to have a Ninja 250 as well as my 600, I used to rip around on my 250 it was a demon in the twisties, all the big bikes would pull away on the straights and I'd embarrass them in the corners ;) Post pics when you get it! What colour are you looking at?

9 times out of 10 when someone says "600" they mean Supersport. Although I suppose that could be a regional thing (I'm in Canada) :o

Makes me happy that here we are restricted to 250 for 12 months. But That's going to change mid 08 and there will be a list of certain bikes you can drive on your "learners" permit. No supersports at all.

word up son! I'm going to get it in black. I can't wait, I've already budgeted everything. Going to pay for the bike in full, have up to $2000 on insurance, and I'm going to spend $1000-$1500 in good gear. I can't wait to ride :)

damn I wish I had my 250 running, I just don't really give a damn about it now that I have the SV. I'll probably get it running again and then crash it or something...

Those who underestimate what a 250 can do demonstrate a serious lack of knowledge in motorcycles. Sure stock they are around 35hp but even that moves the little bike over 100mph. In experienced hands they can hang in twisties with bigger bikes.

an example of a modded one...

With what this one has had done to it.
    • K & N pod air filters
    • Custom modded airbox
    • Dynojet Stage 3 jetting kit
    • Muzzy 2 --> 1 exhaust w/chopped can
    • 13t Front sprocket
    • Front end lowered
    • Woodcraft Clip-Ons
    • Double Bubble windscreen
    • ProGrips
    • Polished stock wheel hoops
    • Pirelli Sport Demon tires
    • Polished grab bar
    • Custom white LED lighting in tail side lights
    • Chopped rear fender
    • Integrated front signals
    • Short rear signals
As for scooters/mopeds, go up around San Francisco and you will sometimes find a few of those 250cc 3 wheel Piaggios handing bigger sportbikes their asses in the twisties too. Quite hilarious actually.

My old 92 ninja250 redlined at 18thou :) You guys really got jipped on the baby ninjas in the US.

Wasn't really the best idea for a learner I will say that. In hindsight it would've been better to pickup a more modern naked 250 that was in newer condition.
