I've been seriously considering buying one recently because all I seem to do is use the internet recently... Any recommendations on what seems to be the best bang for the buck right now? I've been looking and the dell mini 10, the dell mini's seem to be the easiest to upgrade and I could eventually get a 64gb ssd when I get bored of the sata. Any other ideas?

I have the Mini 9 running Ubuntu and it's a great lil computer, as nice as it is to have something so small and portable for taking notes in class and for internet it's pretty useless for much of anything else. The screen hurts my eyes after a while, it heats up real quick, and movies are choppy even with the 2 gb upgrade (which took all of about 90 seconds).

I just bought a Samsung N120. I freakin love the thing... plenty fast for internet and basic stuff, and I got it tethered with my LG Voyager finally, so all is good.

Is video choppy on all of the netbooks or just on the dell mini 9?

You should put Windows XP on it. I've run both Windows and Ubuntu (Dell version as well as canonical) and Ubuntu is slow as fuck in comparison to Windows.

It's a perfectly fine machine for taking notes and browsing the web as well as watching low quality HD movies. It's pretty useless for watching 720p or higher though. It chugs on some flash video sites (though youtube works fine). The keyboard on the Dell is a little wonky; if I had it to do again I would probably get an HP mini.

Not choppy on the Dell if one runs XP. Ubuntu is much choppier.

Movies work fine on my Mini 9. Of course I don't feel the need to be watching 720p+ video every wanking minute of my life.

From what I've heard it's because its the Dell Ubuntu but if you put the real Ubuntu (or OSX) on there it'll be better

Still choppier than XP with canonical (which I mentioned in a previous post) and the battery life is about an hour shorter.

Ubuntu is ok if one has processing power to spare, but it still can't compete with XP on a netbook.

Awesome netbook. I almost considered buying one, but the other night I ended up getting an Acer Aspire One because it has an 11.6" HD display and a full size keyboard. It's more of an ultra portable laptop than a netbook. Could be considered either one, though.

I ended up just getting a blackberry bold for cheap, it takes care of anything I needed a netbook for decently for much cheaper.
