I'd like to try it. Getting my 70-300 lens tomorrow. :)

I already tried it once with a 70-300 and it was still not all that close

Don't even worry about focusing. Switch to manual, focus to infinity, spot meter, and dial down 2 stops. Shoot from the highest altitude you can find. At 300mm on a non FF sensor, you will get the moon to about 1/6 of your image. If you are shooting high res, you can crop enough to make it look decent.

you'll be surprised at the exposure. its the same as the sun

    so if you do iso 100, it'll be f/16 @ 1/100
