good lens as a second lens? other one is a 35mm 1.8

  2. Do you have the money for the 70-200 f2.8?

Buy a 55-200, use it for a while, learn its limitations, decide if you want a 70-200.

Don't be like everyone in OTAP and think that your first lens needs to be a $2000 piece of pro glass :ugh:

    agreed...it's absolutely worth every penny

but if you're not going to be a serious shooter, and not going to be working in low light conditions then you might be able to get away with a cheaper alternative. I love my 70-200 though and wouldn't give it up for anything.

I use my Vivitar 90mm about a 100x more often than my 55-200mm VR to compliment my 35mm.

I'm not a big fan of my 55-200mm. It does everything acceptably and nothing great.

55-200 is my favorite lens so far. shot a lot of night stuff with it.

sharper than the 18-105 kit. and fuck only $225 is a steal

the 70-300 non VR is a nice cheapy but the 70-300VR is too expensive

    get that

then save for tokina 12-24 at $400 as 3rd lens

I saw a 70-300 on CL locally for like 110, probably not the VR version but I didn't pay much attention to it to notice:o.

i understand that the $2g lens is badass, but i wouldn't be using it to it's potential as my second lens. i am looking for alternatives tho, so far looking at the 55-200 or a used 18-200. what do you think?
