I know its primary use is for ricochet free training, as in not damaging steel plate targets and eliminating ricochet? Now, this is just a thought, and I have no experience with this ammunition, but I was wondering if anyone had any informed (or otherwise, since this is OT :mamoru) on this subject?

I know it wouldn't be the absolute ideal, but my thoughts were on the use of this ammunition possibly allowing safer use of a centerfire rifle in an "oh shit" situation. Obviously, regular centerfire rifle fire is not something you want to employ in a house.

Like I said, just a thought.

interesting article, and well backed up, which is rare on OT :o

But I'm talking about in a rifle, which does have the speeds that the article says handguns are missing.

This is all academic for me, my home defense loads are 00 buck and 230 gr hardball

True I think the concepts apply and you'd just have to look at some ballistics gel tests and see if it has the penetration. It may be something to think about for 7.62x39 rounds more than 5.56 too.

if you want rounds that will really kill (if that is your question), get hunting rounds.

that is almost the exact opposite of my question. The idea behind frangible ammunition is that it will shatter upon impact with a hard target.

Guy who likes to use his AR as a HD weapon notwithstanding, centerfire rifles are not what you want to go shooting in a home.
