Hi guys, I'm sure it's not news exactly but I recently re-discovered a magazine I have with an article on the .50 GI round in a 1911. Looks like a nice weapon (if only because of the size o' the frikkin hole in the front!lol) and I'm curious if anyone has any real insight on them. I would love to shoot one. Most of the rounds don't look that impressive because they are kinda slow and don't carry a lot more energy but one of the ones listed (don't remember which off-hand) had 565 ft-lbs of energy! It's a 300 gr moving at 920 fps, I like the sound of that...

    Thoughts?

Why not just get a .45acp one?

Out of my mind, brb never.

I think its just that there is some stigma surrouding the .50 round. Whether it be BMG, AE or GI, and it may only be a .05" difference, but for some reason, it has adopted this "badass" appeal, largely from movies and hollywood.

looks like it uses the same bolt face as a .45, can you re-barrel a standard 1911 w/ no further modifications save for a different spring and shoot it?

its an answer looking for a solution. Really, what problem does it solve?

Most of the hotter 230gr ACP loads put up the same numbers, in a round thats easily available.

Their numbers match the ones my ballistics program gives me, but I've never seen the TK actually been given on any caliber other than dangerous game calibers, like a .458WM and such. Looks to me like they're just trying to hype their caliber by saying it has the same TK and a .44 Mag, which really doesn't mean shit.
