One of my friends that was a track star in high school has been helping me with my 1.5 mile for the AF test because I hit a plateau that I couldn't beat.

He had me start running lots of sprints between my distance days.

After my last hard sprint session my right thigh has been killing me. Its directly in the middle of my quad.

Just walking around doesn't hurt but the minute I start to jog it fucking hurts. My last 2 outings to the track to run I've had to curtail my workout because of the pain. Its a dull, but very deep, pain that hurts every time my foot strikes the ground.

WTF did I do to my self?

I really don't have much time to be able to lay off. I'm finally seeing improvement and the official test is gonna be in a few weeks.

    Did I just over train?

You're gonna need some peanut butter, tin foil, duct tape, and copper wire.

It sounds like you just have a bad muscle cramp.

    Or

You've torn some muscles in your quads.

Your quads take all the impact of running while your calfs and feet keep you balanced and give you speed. If you're not used to running and you start running a whole bunch, you end up tearing muscles in your quads. When I started doing ballet after having done soccer and TKD and stuff for years, I thought I'd be ok because my legs were really strong, it turned out there were muscles there I had never ever worked. You should stretch it if it's a cramp. If it hurts REALLY bad when you stretch, you probably tore some muscles.

start off foam rolling, it's the same idea as a rolling pin but a little more gentle and easy to do consistently. you should be foam rolling and performing a dynamic warmup before workouts.

Tape the shit out of it and grit my teeth.

Still not sure if its just bad shin splints or a stress fracture. Its a more consistent pain than my thigh but it doesn't impact my running times.

try kinesiotaping your shins, it's relatively simple and will provide some relief. i've used it successfully on myself and others for shinsplints.

Awesome, I'll order some Tuesday and give it a try.

I'm getting worried that I'm not gonna be able to finish training once I'm in. I just not recovering like I did when I was 18(And I feel old saying that). Its only been in the last year or so that I just don't bounce back after a hard workout.

Message said they were closed for the new year holiday :squint:

    *edit

    Ordering from Amazon. Cheaper too.

For 12 bucks a roll I really hope this helps. I'm broke a fuck.

amazon is the way to go, it's always cheaper there. the tape last's a long time because you leave it on for about 3 days an application. at this point, if you can't take any time to rest then just ice like crazy, foam roll and try the tape. better than doing nothing..

Cramp or torn muscle but I'm sure someone already covered this.

Make sure you stretch before you go running.:hs:

I took 3 days off after making this thread. Got the tape it and taped my shin. Got some new insoles for my shoes(they are kind of old).

It has been nothing short of a damn miracle. After long runs it still twinges but I can walk up steps with out pain and it feels great during the run.

I don't know whether it was the insoles or the tape but it has been amazing.

I'll keep this tape on until I leave for basic, and if they will let me keep it on then I will.

Thanks for showing it to me.

Now I just hope I have enough time to get my 1.5 mile back down to the right time. It had drifted up to 11:14 the last time I ran it after having to quit for 2 weeks because of my leg. Needs to be back down below a 10:22.

Tuesday I ran a 7 min mile, waited 5 min then ran a 7:15 mile, waited 5 min then ran 3-300's in around 45 seconds a piece.

    Yesterday I ran 4-800's. 3:05, 3:31, 3:29, 3:50

I was really upset how slow my last set was, but i was fucking dead.

glad to hear the pain is getting better. again, foam rolling for your body + tennis ball for your feet will also help a ton, so give both of those a try.
