My external Seagate just took a dump with a lot of files on it. :(

I noticed some external HDs that are 1TB use two 500 GB drives, and one 500 GB drive mirrors the first one. Would trusting a single HD with 1TB of files be too risky with certain brands?

personally, i would NEVER have that much data that didn't have some sort of redundancy, at the very least you'll want a mirror of the data.

They're getting cheap. I bought my WD 500GB for $139.99 6 months ago and its $100 or lower now. Probably get a 1 TB one in a few months since I'm filling up the other one quick with RAW files

FYI, Costco has the WD MyBook Home Edition external HDs on sale.

    500GB - $119 sale ends 7/9
    1 TB - $199 sale ends 7/13

I picked up the 500 GB one today.
