Prom is in 2 weeks. My date and I are "going as friends," though I do figure that I have maybe a 15% chance of getting some action. I have light acne right now, more blackheads than pimples, but still some pimples. It's pretty light, but I'd like to turn every possible thing I can in my favor. Are there any reccomendations on any non-prescription method/product to fully clear up light acne within 2 weeks, or at least make it better?

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I just remember seeing lots of acne-related threads in here in the past.

nothing is going to get rid of it that quick. the best over the counter meds are benzol peroxide and saliac acid. i use a regular face wash, 10% benzol peroxide gel as a spot treatment, and saliac acid moisturizer all over my face. it works well

What is your habit as of now? What do you use and how often, etc. This will help determine.

I've used a a great many things from over the counter to prescription drugs. I know that everyone is different but there are clearly some things that must be done for all. Let me know the answers to the above questions and I believe I can help make a definite difference.

Keep you face clean and use Witch Hazel.
Works for me, and I very rarely get zits/blackheads.

If you can find a kiosk in your area that sells proactiv solution, I would recommend that. I tried it and within a week my acne started to clear up nicely. If this and the above posts dont seem to work for you there is always the dermatologist. While there ask for an injection for acne. This is known as intralesional corticosteroid therapy and is one of the fastest ways to get rid of acne, within a 1-3 day period. It is relatively painless and very effective. Also you will want to try these techniques not to develop any new acne before the prom.

    1) Wash your face morning and night with a cleanser for acne. Follow up with toner, and a cream with acne solution in it.

    2) Make sure your face is relatively free of moisture most of the day. Ive noticed moisture on my face seems to clog pores and cause more acne. Try washing your face after it sweats.

    3) Change your pillow case. Since you sleep on it every night and so does your face there is probably a considerable amount of dirt and oil already on there.

    4) Also washing your clothes since they touch your face may also help.

    5) If you have long hair make sure to keep it clean.

    6) And lastly try not to touch your face with your fingers to much. As your fingers touch everything from money to people's piss on door knobs they get super dirty!! Try to wash your hands as much as possible.

And if nothing seems to work for you and your stuck on the big day, go to nearest drug store and pick up some foundation. Ask the person at the make up counter how to apply it and how it will look most natural. If you do it correctly your skin will end up looking flawless!!

Hope prom goes well and these tips help.

This may sounds weird, but toothpaste is good for when you feel a little bump starting to form. It dries the skin and soaks up the oil, seems to be more effective then the over the counter stuff that is supposed to do the same thing. Put it on at night and let it dry before going to sleep. I would not suggest doing this to your entire face as it does dry out your skin and then you face a whole new problem.

remember youre not trying to dry out your skin because dry skin will create more oil to make up for the dryness so use a moisturizer.

Same. That magic juju worked for me when all over-the-counter AND dermatologist's techniques didn't.

Wait, why would drying out your skin not work? My dermatologist prescribed me acutain which does just that...dries the FUCK OUT of your body.

About 8 years ago when I was in high school, I had a rank 6 acne problem (on a 1 to 10 scale, 10 being horrible acne). After 4 months of my face flaking off and my body being moderately dry I was clear as crystal.

I have never had any acne problems since, every once and a great while I will get a little pimple, but who doesn't.

It doesn't work that way...just drying out your skin doesn't work because then it irritates your skin and then it goes into overdrive to produce even more oil. You don't want to walk around with a wet and sweaty face, but after you use these drying products you want to at least apply something so it doesn't get irritated and flakey.

Shit...how do I know this stuff?

    DERMALOGICA IS THE SHIT.

Check out their stuff. I've been using their products and I have to tell you....it's hands down the best I have ever seen. Proactiv is definitely among the better stuff because it isn't radical like a lot of treatments, however Dermalogica does it even better.

    More info:

Dermalogica is the skin care system researched and developed by The International Dermal Institute. Known worldwide as the "professionals' choice," Dermalogica is founded on the belief that good skin care is not about pampering or luxury...any more than brushing your teeth or washing your hair is!

Drink water, eat right, and wash your face on a daily basis. This will help.
