I have an idea for a program don't know if its even possible or not but how do I go about finding the right programmer that won't steal my idea for himself?

is this a program or web app or what? once thats determined, you can figure out the best language for the job, which will cut down the crowd to those that can program in that language

what kind of language are you looking to build it on? Will it be a web app or a desktop app? Almost anything is possible with software.

I assume a windows program...you can do a .NET application but your customers would have to have the .NET framework installed. Other than that C++ with MFC libraries.

    Another reality apparently
What are some basics of the app? Is there alot of user interaction and interfaces? How much are you looking to spend?

Is it a standalone app, or will it have file i/o? will there be a database?

If you are going to create a desktop app I strongly suggest using the new adobe air platform. It is a lot more stable and works more efficient compared to vb, .net, c++, etc. Users only need to download the .air exstention or something, but this allows developers to use their web knowledge like Flash and have it appear on the desktop. Kevin Rose's Pownce desktop app is adobe air.
