I'm trying to work on my powerclean. Basically my whole football team does shitty powercleans where no one drops down and front squats the weight up. I'm trying to fix my form and now I'm dropping to basically ass to grass and squatting it up. And does anyone think it's feasible to say go from 135x5, 145x3, 155x3, 170x3 powerclean with good form w/o wraps to 280-300 with wraps by the end of July. Granted though this was my first day of trying to use correct form and I could have most likely did 185x3, maybe more.

    Any tips?

Quick question.... Are power cleans or hang cleans harder to perform...? I'm guessing the obvious power clean, but i just wanna clarify.

I cleaned with a squat, whatever the fuck kinda clean that is, 275 as a Sr. in High School. I have no doubt that with good form your clean can go up very fast.

Power clean means you don't drop into the full squat position (your legs stay above parallel). Hang clean means you do it from the hang instead of from the ground. You can do a power clean from the hang.

Shit so did I get it all wrong? I'm looking for explosive power and all around a bunch of weight.

hang cleans are harder because you dont have anywhere near the leg drive or speed that you get from pulling off the ground. as long as you have good form the limiting factor in cleans is going to be your front squat strength. if its power cleans youre doing like ceaze described without dropping into a full front squat its going to be dependant on your pulling strength primarily

Power clean from blocks or from the hang requires more explosiveness

Full cleans as you mean front squatting the weight up? No we do not. I think I'm the first one to do them in years.

I think your expectations of adding more than 100lbs to your powerclean in only a few months are a bit far fetched, espescially if you already have good form. If you can, all the more power to you though.

he could definately add atleast 50-60 lbs by dropping...

I do think cleaning over 300 lbs is farfetched... I'm curious to how much u guys do and your other numbers? I just recently started doing them and pulled 245 with a slight drop

I have a hard time with power cleans. I love hang cleans, but I have a really hard time transitioning up from the ground on a power clean.

    I generally do 5x5s at 135 or 145 after a quick warmup.

He said he's already dropping down to the front squat if I'm not mistaken, but even so there is no way a beginner will add 30% just switching from power to squat clean. Many times they will add barely anything at first, because they cut the pull short in order to jump under the bar, espescially without a proper coaching.

I can probably squat clean 125kg right now, but it really doesn't matter because my arm keeps from jerking over ~115kg. I have also snatched 100kg and back squatted 175kg. 245lbs is a very good power clean, especially if you just started them.

    Interesting....
I am kinda nervous to do a full power clean without the proper coaching, form looks kinda hard to get down...

once again, power cleans are not a full clean movement.

Power Clean: Bringing the bar to the shoulders without dropping more than parallel to get under it

Clean: Regardless of how high you can bring the bar, dropping under it into a full deep front squat and then coming back up

Get some coaching on these, trying them by yourself leads to tons of bad form that will get reinforced from repetition if you dont have someone that knows what theyre doing to show you what youre doing wrong
