I'm about to cop the 13'' 2.2GHz - I've never owned an Apple :noes:.

I think it's cheaper if I order it through the regular student discount opposed to the ADC program (someone please confirm, I'm coming up on my 25th hour of being awake :o)

I plan on editing very simple videos (family trips, skiing/snowboarding with buddies, etc) - what software do you veteran Applers recommend?

How exactly are you configuring it, so I can tell you whats the better deal?

i've used imovie with my parents minidv cam and a firewire cable to compile a vacation video for them
then burnt it on a dual layer disc with idvd

it had a slight learning curve for me, because i had very little experience with editing video and i did feel like reading instructions

i'm most likely ordering stock setups with the education discount - either the first or second one (white books): http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/StoreReentry.wo?family=MacBook

the difference between the 2 base models:
    2.0GHz VS 2.2GHz
    80gb hd VS 120gb hd
    combo drive VS super drive
    $999 VS $1199

i would just order the stock set ups, then upgrade aftermarket :dunno: - does anyone think it's even necessary to upgrade my RAM considering i don't do anything demanding?

i would want to burn my edited videos onto DVDs... do i need superdrive?

if you want to burn dvds, you need a super drive. or a usb dvd burner
i recommend 2gb of ram, but DON'T BUY THE RAM FROM APPLE! try to get the least amount of ram on the stock macbook, then buy some from newegg or something. i have 2gb in my 2.0 c2d macbook and it made a huge difference

so i should just order this through apple's education discount rather than ADC, correct?

and :werd: x 2... do people really buy extra RAM from the manufacturer? :eek4:
