any of you guy do some skeet shooting?

i just went skeet shooting for the first time yesterday morning. wow, its so fun shooting a moving target. i plan on getting serious in this field and compete competitively.

-so my question is, whats a good barrell length that shooters use?
-what kind of shotgun (over and under, semi, pump)?
-and what kind of shotgun do you have?

I do it every now and then. I just use a standard 870 express. I forget the barrel length.

i use my 870, but its alot easier with an over under or semi because you dont have to disrupt your aim to reload. also, practice with both eyes open. its alot easier to see the clays that way than aiming with an eye closed

I prefer trap... mainly because I suck at skeet. :big grin:

Both are tons of fun though.

i have a 870 with a 28" barrel with a "skeet" choke on it. went skeeting a couple of times. would like to go more except that its kinda hard doing it by myself (string tied to foot)

don't really like shooting with my friends too much, they don't seem to understand how expensive bullets are.

I've done it in the past and I like it. Wish I could go more often. I've used a semi-auto and a bolt-action shotgun :ugh:

I'd get an overunder if I was going to do it a lot.

thats hard to get used too after shooting handguns and rifles. and i seem to shoot better w/ one eye closed. but you are not the first person to tell me that, so i guess i should practice that

Most formal competitors use O/U's or Autos with barrels in the 28-32" range.

When I shoot with my friends I just use a 835 or my dad's BPS :dunno:

I just use a pump 28" shotgun with 2 +1 shells. I don't have any need really for a semi-auto at to moment. My skeet thrower can only throw two at a time and I usually don't need more than two or three shells to do the job.

My uncle shoots a TON of trap in Montana. He uses a Rizzini O/U with like, a 28" barrel.

Also, it's hard to get used to shooting both eyes open after shooting handguns and pistols???

Shooting handguns and pistols WRONG maybe.

I shoot handguns with both eyes open :dunno:. You're not supposed to shoot them with one eye closed. Just concentrate on the front sight. The rear sights and the target should be a little fuzzy.
