I keep having problems with my neck, lower neck, middle of my traps, seems deeper than the trap muscles. I think its the way I sit at my desk or something. It feels like its getting tighter and tighter and then occasionally it "pulls" and i can't turn my neck for a few days without pain back there. I'm positive its not from working out. My desk setup at home is even worse, and it really starts irritating me there. Anyone else have this problem?

I had a similiar problem, i usually work 50/50 desk/walking around and noticed it was worse if i spent more time at my desk. I ended up swapping my mouse hand from right to left. It takes about a week to get used to. Now I go back and forth from month to month. Also, i would lean on my mouse arm while not using the keyboard (searching for files, doing powerpoints, surfing)

For every 1 hour you sit at your desk you should spend 5min walking around.
    Or, so I've heard.

Go to the bathroom and do some stretches real quick. Also, Evo is a big fan of weekly massages to work that stuff out... if you can afford it of course.

I get up frequently anyway to go to the bathroom. Plus I'm lucky enough that I go workout at lunch, so that gives me a break from sitting at my desk. Tomorrow I'm going to play with my seat adjustments, and monitor height/depth on my desk to see if anything feels better.

I sit most of the day but get up often to go into the server room, bathroom, fix a computer in another dept, etc. I also take the stairs up and down whenever I can. Except after leg day. :(

    lot of hours sitting

try to get out right after lunch-- walk across the street to the barnes & noble in the citigroup center and grab coffee, hit the bank or something, then come back

way too much sitting, though-- ass gets sore

try not working out during your break, if your back and neck are weak from your sitting situation then going to put more stress on them during your break wont help the fact.
Epsom salt, warm baths and try to get a deep tissue massage you probably have some nasty knots up in there

I sit at a desk all day. Get up and walk around as much as I can. If I have to ask someone something I'll generally wonder over and talk to them rather than emailing, always standup and pace around if I'm on a call etc.

Also started using the mouse with my left hand at work, made a massive difference to wrist pains I was having.

I sit probably all day long. But I do get up and walk around the office once in awhile. I also do squats at my desk, people probably think I am crazy. But it keeps the blood flowing and energy up.

im on my ass 9 hours at a time.

If your work covers a RMT, get that shit sorted and thank me later. It's pretty much the best thing for people sitting all day.

I do look down at notes frequently...I'll try and watch what I'm doing and cut it back.

In the first image, notice how far down the elbows rest and how relaxed his shoulders are. I used to sit at a desk with no keyboard tray and had my elbows up pretty high so that my wrists were resting on the desk. I was having the same problems you've described, TS.

Try to find some sort of setup where your wrists are around the same level as the guy has his in the picture.

In the meanwhile, I found that doing lots of lateral/front shoulder raises and shoulder presses in the evening helped my shoulders (and subsequently my lower neck area) feel less tense.

I used to work for a company that had their own gym. It was really nice to be able to walk over and work out whenever I wanted. I kinda miss that.
