Well, I would like something with rails, and flip-up sights... Why not get it in one package? The M&P15T (I think) is an option too, but the adjustable gas system on the SR556 is interesting. 3 magpul mags and a carrying case too.

That has a little bit to do with it... But no, the idea of adjustable gas pressure has me curious.

    Suppressor use?

The SR-556 has a suppressor setting on the piston IIRC.

S&W has been developing a reputation for reliability hard and fast. They are really pushing their wares onto the country's top trainers for T&E, and who can say no to free weapons really.

The ruger's only pitfalls so far has been carrier tilt, and the usual problems associated with piston ARs

    1. More recoil from more reciprocating mass
    2. Carrier tilt putting more wear on buffer tubes and (theoretically) the bolt lugs.
    3. Heavier, and more complicated. Funny how POF hasn't been developing a good reputation at all.

If I was going to get a piston rifle, i'd go with LWRC, because their rifles are universally loved by all, and they do seem to be a bit more in-depth and professional in their engineering of the piston system.

The ZM piston system is the smartest IMHO, but it never seemed to take off, and ZM got bought out by Para-Ordnance... the "new" Para AR-15 is coming soon at some ridiculous price point.

If I was considering the SR-556, i'd rather get a premium DI AR like the Colt 6920/6940, Daniel Defence M4 (CHF barrel version + slap on a LITE rail), or a Noveske built rifle, but I don't think Noveske's taking any orders for a while.

ANYthing that the SR556 offers you can already buy in a better quality rifle made from a more respectable company.

Basically, i'd wait a year and see how other people's rifles are doing.

Just remember that 95% of the shooters in America put a few mags down range during the summer... max! Most shooters aren't buying/loading thousands of rounds to burn. Only a select idiots decide to burn their money in such a spectacularly non-women attracting manner:coolugh:.

I mean, you don't hear about POFs going down... until you talk to people who put on classes that involve 2K rounds in 2-3 days.

I think a quad-rail is a little overkill for the average user, so I went ahead and got the M&P15 MOE. I like that I can attach small sections of rail where I see to should the need arise.

I was under the impression this particular rifle had less recoil than average... Supposedly one of the perks of having adjustable pressure.

It's an interesting gun, but personally for the money I'd be having something built for me. The piston stuff is neat, but with the exception of strange shit (short suppressed guns, for example), I don't see where it provides a huge "tangible" benefit. My bolt not burning me after 200 rds vs 50 really isn't much of a selling point to me.

  24. Are you telling me you don't stick your tongue into the rifle to lubricate the bolt with saliva?
